APTOR is an acronym for Alabama Physical Therapy&
Occupational Rehab, representing our roots in
treating and preventing work-related injuries. APTOR opened on January 24, 1994 as an outpatient
clinic in the Wood Square Shopping Center off of
McFarland Blvd. in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Services
offered at that time were physical therapy and work
hardening and were performed by a small physical
therapy staff of three. Within a year, APTOR had
quickly grown to include a full administrative staff
as well as additional licensed clinical staff and
aides while expanding its services to include
outpatient wound care.
Over the next five years, APTOR expanded service to
Fayette and additional locations in Tuscaloosa. The
company added massage therapy services and developed
several clinical specialty programs which include
aquatic therapy, a fibromyalgia program, and
vestibular rehabilitation training. Reflecting the
company’s commitment to mentorship and clinical
education, APTOR became an approved clinical site
for physical therapist, physical therapist
assistant, and athletic training students for
schools throughout the southeast.
On April 27th 2011, a devastating tornado
struck the city of Tuscaloosa resulting in the
complete destruction of the Wood Square location.
APTOR staff quickly responded, their hard work and
persistence resulting in the company’s newest
location at Parkview center in Tuscaloosa. The
majority of APTOR patients were receiving care less
than five days after the disaster.
Looking to the future, our company plans to continue
offering the level of service and care that our
patients have come to appreciate while expanding to
offer access in additional West Alabama communities.
